Teen Stem Day Invitation

On Friday March 21, 2014, high school students from all around Bergen County will converge upon Bergen Community College in Paramus New Jersey to take part in hands-on workshops in the areas of Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (S.T.E.M.). The goal is to open the minds of these young people to the various career opportunities in the S.T.E.M. fields as they participate in the SECOND ANNUAL TEEN S.T.E.M. Day!

We are looking for volunteers to help host/teach one of these sessions. Students will be anticipating exciting and engaging hands-on activities and we look forward to your help offering these experiences to them! We are also looking for volunteers with information tables at lunch regarding Careers in S.T.E.M.

Please fill out the following form by August 1, 2013. A member of the committee will get back to you with additional details.

Our inaugural event, held in the winter of 2012, was highly regarded by the student participants and received a great deal of media attention including The Bergen Record, the Patch, and various local television spots.

Thanks for a great Section meeting yesterday and thanks again for Dave and Bill for an engaging QA presentation (with full set props and all!). They presented on Survivor Stories, a set of case studies from “the QA foxhole” out in the field and we covered everything from imported radios and drug testing to Madagascar vanilla extract and computer monitor quality. General Section Meeting – Lessons Learned/Survivor Stories – June 13th, 2013

The Presentation will include:

  • A fun and informative presentation given by Bill Latzko, a Master of Quality (Title given to Bill by Dr. W. Edwards Deming), and Dave Sherman, a 25+ year veteran of Food/Beverage, Environmental, & Clinical Laboratories.
  • The Presentation is subtitled, “A View from the Foxhole”. We will discuss specific issues that occurred while we were “Guarding against a Non-Quality Invasion.”
  • Topics Discussed will include:
    • A CBS Columbia Records Promotion that required $1,755,000 worth of radios purchased in Hong Kong in 1968.
    • A Brilliant way to try to beat a “Drug Test” for Marijuana.
    • The Artificial Adulteration of “Natural” Essential Oils.

One day course – “What’s Your Problem”

The ASQ Lehigh Valley Section is presenting a one day course titled “What’s Your Problem” by Kicab Castaneda-Mendez on Friday, May 10, 2013 at the Days Hotel, 3400 Airport Road in Allentown, PA.

This course involves identifying and solving the five types of Process Problems. The presenter has 30 years of consulting experience, has written several books and numerous articles. He has also given more than 50 conferences. He is a GE certified Master Black Belt, MBB/BB/GB trainer and facilitator. He has two master’s degrees (statistics and mathematics).
